Doris O. Pitts, 85 of Apopka died peacefully Sunday, February 26, 2012 with her family by her side. Doris was born October 10, 1926 in Charlestown, Nevis, West Indies to the late Adina and Alfred Brown. Doris was raised in Charlestown and came to the United States to work. She attended City College, New York she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Doris continued her education and received her Master’s Degree from Staten Island College, New York. Her and husband, Richard lived in New York. Eventually she moved to the West Indies and finally moved back state side settling in Central Florida. Doris worked for the public school system in New York and Florida as a elementary school teacher.
She was a member of the Patmos Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church, Winter Park where she was involved with many church activities. Doris will be remembered for her tireless work with the young people (Pathfinders), and holding various church offices. She had a friendly tireless spirit that will live on in her two sons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard and three sisters, Violet Brown, Carmen Brown and Agnes Morgan. Doris is survived by her sons, Kenneth and daughter-in-law, Janice Pitts of Buckeye, AZ and Richard Pitts of Orlando; two sisters, Iola Brown of Apopka and Inez Dixon of Bermuda; niece, Pat; two nephews, Everson Hull and Roy Dixon; many cousins and her church family.
A life celebration will be held March 11, 2012 at 11:00 am at Patmos Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church, 821 W. Swoope Avenue, Winter Park with the Pastor Samuel Dade officiating.
