Obituary

Edward S. Britton, Jr. of Ocala, FL, passed peacefully on April 22, 2024. He was 74 years old.

Edward was born in Flushing, NY on January 4, 1950 to the late Mildred T. (Torgesen) and Edward S. Britton, Sr. He married his childhood sweetheart, Elizabeth (Mallon), on July 22, 1972.

Edward proudly served in the United States Army beginning in 1969, and was deployed overseas. Upon beginning his professional career, he worked for New York Telephone. He dedicated 37 years to the organization, as they evolved into Bell Atlantic, NYNEX, and Verizon, retiring in 2007. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Studies from Empire State College in 1998. After relocating to Ocala, Ed was active in his Summer Glen community, serving as the Chair of the Facilities and Grounds Committee, member of the Summer Glen Car Cruisers, and transitioning from softball player to the team’s sports writer.

Ed was a proud supporter of veterans, a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, had a passion for classic cars and rock n’ roll, and always enjoyed sharing stories and a good laugh with his family.

Left to cherish Ed’s memory are: his devoted wife, Elizabeth, of Ocala, FL; daughter Christine of Brooklyn, NY; and son Dennis of Westminster, CO. He is also survived by: his loving siblings, Judi Kane of Merrick, NY; David Britton, and wife Andrea, of Flushing, NY; Thomas Britton, and wife Robin, of Green Valley, AZ; several nieces, nephews, and their families; and many friends along the way.

Services will be private.
