Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Hansen Lewis died at the age of 95 on March 6th in The Villages, FL.
She was born in Langston, MI, on June 19, 1921 to Elva and Herbert Hansen. After graduating from Lakeview. MI High School in 1939 and working in Grand Rapids, MI, Betty enlisted in The Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, (later WACS ) in 1942. She served in Italy and North Africa, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Medical Corps. During the war she met and married Lieutenant Jim Lewis on May 10, 1945 in Milan, Italy. Following her discharge, she settled in Pittsburgh with her husband, raising their three children in Squirrel Hill. After his death in 1959, she moved to Edgewood, PA until 2011. She was an active bowler through her 80s, avid bridge player, and crossword puzzle enthusiast. She enjoyed many trips as a Senior Citizen and will be remembered by family and friends as a strong, independent and loving woman.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, husband James G. Lewis, Jr. and brothers, Marvin, Elman and Russell Hansen. She is survived by her sister Norma Larsen, Coral, MI; her children, J. Gary Lewis, Forest Hills, PA, Kaye (Bob) Fierle, The Villages, FL, and Ted Lewis, Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Kristen Runkle, Greg (Darlene) Fierle, Heather (Ben) Long, April (Eric) Fleshman, Jamie (Cosimo) Colonna, Courtney (Jason) Morgan and 12 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Pittsburgh at a later date with burial in Homewood Cemetery.
