Obituary
Emily (Ibbotson) Holden, age 92, of The Villages, FL passed away on January 5, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her two daughters: Nancy (husband, Robert LeBlanc) Holden Towers of The Villages, FL and Joanne (husband, Robin) Sukow of Aptos, CA along with one sibling, Jack Ibbotson. She was the proud grandmother to Andrew R Towers, Nicholas H Towers, Russell E Towers III, Nicolas Sukow, Zachary Sukow, and Melissa Barretto; as well as great grandmother to Julia M Towers, Lila R Towers, Chloe Sukow and Kennedy R Sukow.
Emily was predeceased by two of her children – Peter R Holden and Cynthia Holden as well as nine siblings – Marion Omerod, Helen Reid, William Ibbotson, Naomi Tribble, Ruth Hay, Henry Ibbotson, Grace Minor, Sylvia Rousseau and Donald Ibbotson.
Emily was born Aug 18, 1929 in Tiverton, RI where she resided until a move to Florida in 2010 to enjoy the warmth and lifestyle of The Villages in her retirement. She loved to sing, garden and watch/root for the Boston Red Sox. A highlight she always remembered was a 3 day Red Sox team destination trip with daughters, Nancy and Joanne, where she was given a “happy 80th birthday Emily” salute by Jerry Remy & Don Orsillo ‘on air’ and the big screen. She also got a big birthday hug from Mike Lowell !
She was a 1947 graduate of BMC Durfee High School and a 1950 graduate of the Union Hospital School of Nursing. She was most proud of her 35 year career as a Registered Nurse evening supervisor at Charlton Memorial Hospital (formerly Union-Truesdale Hospital and Union Hospital). She was beloved by the staff who called her “Auntie Em”.
As dementia consumed her with advancing age, she remained happy and pleasant always starting and continuing her day with a smile and a song. She realized her wish of remaining with family right up to the end of her days in this life and you can bet she’s singing in heaven. Emily, you are our sunshine making us happy as we fondly remember you.
A Celebration of Life service and burial will take place on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 10am at her gravesite at the Pocasset Hill Cemetery. The service will be celebrated by The Rev. John Higginbotham.
