Obituary

Eunice Mae (Teri) Umland (85), of Debary, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 4, 2022. Teri was born on May 26, 1937, in Shawano, Wisconsin, to Hugo Emil Umland and Lucy Clara (Kluchesky) Umland. She graduated from Wittenberg High School in 1955 and enlisted in the Women’s Air Force. After her time in the service she moved to Neenah, Wisconsin, and worked for Marathon Corporation, which later became American Can, then James River, and then Fort James, for 37 years, and retired in 1996. After her formal retirement she also worked as an over-the-road truck driver for two years before moving to Florida.

Throughout her life Teri enjoyed playing many sports, including softball, volleyball, basketball, field hockey, bowling, and golf, traveling around the country and participating in national tournaments. She and her sisters Judy and Joy took several trips together: to Oregon to visit relatives, where they also took a hot air balloon ride and rode a dune buggy; to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; to Branson, Missouri; and two trips to Florida, where they visited Walt Disney World and swam with manatees. She made many friends throughout her life and loved her family. Teri loved to laugh, and she had a heart of gold, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Teri was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Lucy Umland; her brothers Rollin Gene Umland, Roger Dee Umland, and Gordon August Umland; her sister Joy Jay Weller; and her life partner Loretta Dawson.

She is survived by her sister Judith Joyce Schneider (Appleton, WI), as well as many nieces and nephews and their families, and by her many friends.

In accordance with Teri’s wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes will be interred in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton, WI. No services will be held.
