Floyd Wesley Bentz was born on December 5, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, the first born son of Oscar and Alice Bentz of Clark County Wisconsin. He is survived by his sister, Sharon Bentz Wolf of New Smyrna Beach and his two
daughters, Karin A. Bentz of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and Kathy D. Bentz of Austin, Texas. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Joanne Pedderson Bentz and his brother, Allen B. Bentz. Floyd lived in Alden, Illinois from 1930
until 1995, when he retired to New Smyrna Beach, Florida and St. Germain, Wisconsin with Joanne. Floyd and Joanne were married in 1956 and made Alden, Illinois their home until retirement. Floyd graduated from Alden High School in 1944. He and his brother Allen operated the Bentz Furniture Company located in Alden, Illinois until Allen retired and then Floyd operated the business as a sole proprietor with Joanne. Joanne passed away in 2001 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Floyd was a veteran of World War II and served in the Philippines in the U.S. Army, reaching a rank of technical sergeant. Floyd loved the Wisconsin North woods and his beautiful cabin, Hummingbird Hill on Big St. Germain Lake. He enjoyed boating, motorcycle riding, model trains, country music, fast cars, model airplanes, following the stock market and spending time watching his favorite shows like Lawrence Welk from his recliner. Floyd's family, Sharon, Karin and Kathy were all with him in his home until his passing with the grateful assistance of hospice. A Celebration of Life was held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in South Daytona , Florida on February 23, 2011 and the family plans to have a dedication of the cremains in Alden, Illinois in late spring early summer. Donations may be sent to Hospice or the American Diabetes Association in memory of Floyd.
