Obituary
Francis James Knee 87, of New Smyrna Beach died Friday, May 20, 2016 at home with his family by his side. Frank was born on September 6, 1928, in the Greenpoint section of Brookly, NY, to Joseph Lawerence Knee and Katharine (Kelly) Knee. He was predeceased by brothers Joseph, Charles, James and Edward.
Frank attended St. Anthony of Padua Grade School and Brooklyn Technical High School where he studied Chemistry. He attended Seton Hall University in the evenings and received a B.S. degree in Chemistry in June 1953. Frank received an MBA from Iona College while working for Liquid Carbonic Corp. His first permanent position was with Celanese Corp. in Summit, NJ. His last position was VP of Marketing at Liquid Carbonic Corp. in Chicago.
Frank was drafted in the Army in August 1953 as a trainee and received a direct commission as a 2nd Lieutenant the Medical Service Corps. He trained at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas and spent 17 months in Korea as an assistant Battalion Surgeon and was discharged in 1956 as a 1st Lieutenant.
He and Irene A. McGarry of Greenpoint were married in 1956. They had four children, Maria Katherine (Mark) Dominquez of Evergreen, CO, Elizabeth Kelly (Shane) Sterne, of Batavia, IL, Susan Moira (Tim) Hoffmann of Naperville, IL, and William Francis (Susan) Knee of Mt. Prospect, IL. Together they had 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Irene predeceased Frank in 1998.
Frank married Peggy Moore in 2003. With this marriage , Frank became stepfather to Garry (Toni) Moore of High Point North Carolina, and step grandfather to 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. They were both members of Sugar Mill Country Club and enjoyed golf, swimming, fishing, traveling and crossword puzzles.
A memorial mass will held 11AM, Thursday May 26, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach with a reception to follow at the Sugar Mill Country Club.
