Obituary
After a long illness Frederick G. (“Gil”) Baum went into the arms of our Lord and Savior on November 4th, 2016. Gil was born in Newark, and grew up in East Orange, New Jersey. He joined the US Army Air Corps in 1941 after two years at the Valley Forge Military Academy in Pennsylvania. He spent 22 years in the US Air Force as a pilot during WWII and the Korean war and later as a weather officer, retiring as a Major. While in the service, Gil married Jean Brobst (deceased) with whom he has three children: Susan Baum, Judy (Mrs. Michael Ryan) and Frederick Baum Jr. After retirement from military service he started a career as a purchasing agent with Florida Steel Corporation in Tampa, Florida, and later transferred to Jacksonville. In April of 1975 Gil married Elaine Hebert and welcomed three step-children to his family, Cindy (Mrs. Scott Zima), Randy Bevill, and Sandy (Mrs. Joseph Roberts). Gil and Elaine retired in 1983 and began their many travels across the country in a camper, eventually making it all the way to the Pacific Northwest. Some of their favorite places to visit were Bar Harbor, Maine and Maggie Valley, North Carolina to which they would return often. Gil will be missed by his friends, especially Jim Turner. Gil is survived by his children and step-children, his niece Debbie Davies and nephew Stephen Baum, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Gil and Elaine are members of Bella Vista Baptist Church. Many thanks to Lydia Long and to the staff at Halifax Health Hospice who have helped us throughout this difficult time. Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements. The service will be at Bella Vista Baptist Church, Edgewater, FL, 11AM Tuesday, November 8th. Interment to follow at Sea Pines Cemetery.
