Obituary
Frederick Terry II passed away last Friday, January 12, 2018 at home with his family after complications from a broken hip and femur late last year at 88 years of age. Born August 11, 1929 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana to parents Robert I. Terry and Marguerite Hyden Terry. Fred attended high school in Indianapolis and college at the University of New Mexico where he joined the Sigma Chi fraternity. When school was interrupted by the Korean war, Fred enlisted in the infantry, later graduating from OCS in Lawton, Oklahoma. He served a second tour in Korea as an Artillery Lieutenant. After discharge, Fred returned to Indianapolis, Indiana where he attended the Indiana University in Bloomington receiving a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration. It is at IU, that Fred met his future wife and love of his life of 61 years, Patricia Lugar Terry. Frederick and Patricia Terry were married, June 23, 1956 and moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where Fred began a 30 year career with Phillips Petroleum Company. Fred began as a Landman and had many jobs, moving many times during his career. His primary focus was energy exploration, working in Norway, establishing leases for North Sea drilling operations in Norway, Geothermal energy in the deserts of California and finishing his career as Manager of Investor Relations in New York City. Fred retired from Phillips in 1985 stating recently, “I’ve been fortunate now to be retired longer than I worked!”.
Upon retirement Fred convinced his wife Pat to store all her possessions and join him on an adventure at sea. They purchased a 60 foot sailboat and named her Athena, out of Norwalk, CT, registered in New York, New York and sailed off to the Mediterranean sea for 5 years traveling extensively, residing some of the time in Porto Ercole, Puerto Cala Galera, Italy. Later, returning to Florida, Fred took care of his mother, Marguerite and mother-in-law, Irmadean Lugar in Florida. Fred was a champion for his family, a leader, role model and a respected patriarch. Fred is survived by his wife, Patricia Lugar Terry, son, Frederick Terry III, son and daughter-in-law, Stewart Glenn Terry and Lianne McCune Terry, Grandson, Jonathan Russell Terry and Grand Daughter, Kathryne Cherie Terry.
