George A. Reader, 90, New Smyrna Beach Florida, died February 14, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania on February 11, 1911 to the late George A. and Julia Reader. He came to this area in 1987 from Salem, Ohio. He worked as a master machinist at Deming Pump in Salem and General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio. After retirement in Ohio he worked for Unocal Racing Fuel at Daytona, Atlanta and Talladega International Speedways for 15 years. He will be remembered for his extraordinary patience and his ability to repair anything. He enjoyed golfing in the summer, bowling in the winter, and was a dedicated father and grandfather. His family will always remember their parents’ total devotion to each other.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son Larry (Linda) Reader of New Smyrna Beach, son Mark (Sue) Reader of Boardman, Ohio, grandchildren Joey Reader, Tommy Reader, Andrew Reader, Molly Johnson, Karen Meade, Jeff Reader and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons David and Bruce and sister Eva Landwert. He preceded his wife Marybell in death by ten days after 70 years of marriage.
The family requests memorial donations to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
