Obituary

Gloria A. Keith, 63, of The Villages, Florida and former resident of Tonawanda, New York died on March 6, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Gloria was born in Buffalo, New York on July 5, 1950, and moved to The Villages, January 2006. She was a graduate of Nardin Academy and Buffalo State College. She worked as a Special Education teacher in the Buffalo Public Schools until her retirement in 2005 Gloria was well known for her social abilities, she would quietly work the room until she had made friends with everyone. New friends would become extended family that she could invite to concerts, festivals and other social events. An avid "garage sale follower", she could be found looking for bargains for her and for her friends. A favorite pastime was traveling: by RV to the main 48 states, to the Caribbean, to Alaska and a recent trip to Italy. Gloria is survived by her husband Charles "Chuck" Keith, a sister Donna Dudek, a sister Marilyn Simon, and a brother Bob Simon. She was a step mother to Shawn Keith, Michael Keith and Jamie Keith Blaszkowiak and 5 grand children. Flowers graciously declined, donations in "Loving memory of Gloria" may be made to American Lung Association or The Villages Cornerstone Hospice. The family is planning a "Celebration of her Life" gathering with family and friends at her home on Monday, March 10th at 4pm

I am deeply saddened to hear that Gloria lost her courageous battle with cancer. I knew her from Nardin and later from the Buffalo Schools. She was always so full of happiness and always had nice things to say about everyone. She cared deeply for her students and was always there to help them. Her smile was contagious! My deepest sympathies to all her family and friends.

I was just informed of Gloria's passing. Gloria was my first friend; we were both about 4 years old and lived on Beard Avenue. I can still vividly remember her family house and all the fun we had there. My family moved away and about 50 years later I was fortunate enough to reconnect with Gloria when we ended up teaching in the same school. Gloria was the most natural, down to earth person I met: very straight forward with a streak for fun. Chuck, I am sorry for your loss, she missed.

Chuck, I am so sorry to hear that Gloria lost her battle with this terrible illness. "Glo" was one of my first friends at Nardins. She was a great friend in high school, always game for anything. I had a great time in high school and Gloria was the reason. We always kept in touch thru the years, she knew my family and husband and they just loved her. I am so glad I finally got to meet you Chuck at the reunion. Gloria will be missed

Dear Chuck: I am deeply saddened by the news of Gloria's passing, but I know she is in a better place now. I knew in elementary school (P.S. 22) which makes me one of her oldest friends. The Simon house on Beard Ave. was my second home. Gloria and I went to Nardin (we founded a folk group called the Lost Chords) and then to Buff State. Unfortunately, we did not see much of each other after college; but the Nardin reunions and summer lunches reconnected us. I last saw Gloria in August, just before she returned to Florida, and I honestly thought she was going to beat cancer. To her credit, she put up a courageous fight and was upbeat and optimistic. Gloria was one of the sincerest and most genuine poeple I know and her joie de vivre rubbed off on everyone. She will be truly missed, but I thank God for the wonderful memories that I will always cherish of our "Glo." JG

Chuck; we are so sorry for your loss.
Gloria was one of the first friends I met when we moved to the Villages in 2007. She soon became a good friend as we shared fun activities and enjoyed each others company. Living across the street from one another in the Village of Largo made it easy to do things together. Even our doggies Toby and Rocky became good friends and then Chewey and Rocky. Gloria was a wonderful friend to everybody and was very inclusive as she shared her ideas of what to do next for fun. All of us that knew Gloria loved her for she was very giving, hospitable and a sweet friend to all of us. We all will miss her presence here on earth. I know she's in heaven and present with the Lord for her faith in Christ was expressed. Gloria, until we meet again. With love to my sweet friend.
