Obituary

Gregory “Greg” L. Young, 76, passed away on August 26, 2023 following a brief illness. The son of W. Edward and Lois E. (Velthoven) Young, Greg held a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree of Arts from Kean University, where he was still an active member of Sigma Beta Tau Fraternity and named “Brother of the Half Century”, and he had held various positions in Student Government while in college. Greg enjoyed playing softball, bowling, darts, and most recently, water volleyball, pickleball, Scrabble and Cribbage. Additionally, he was a member of several organizations including Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Delta Kappa, Sons of the American Revolution, American Legion, The Villages Republican Club and MENSA. He was a funny, gregarious, intelligent, and loving man.

During his career, Greg had been a teacher, guidance counselor, realtor, mentor, and sports coach, his choices of professions reflective of his love of helping and positively impacting people. He was loved and admired by family, friends, former students and colleagues alike. As an educator, Greg ran many programs such as a gifted and talented program in Clark, New Jersey and a tutoring program while attending Kean College (University). A New Jersey native, Greg moved to The Villages in 2020, in part to be near his beloved daughter Melissa Lyn Zrinski and son-in-law Peter Zrinski, both of whom survive him.

Greg was also survived by his siblings Bill (Joanne) Young of Point Pleasant, NJ. Carl Fuhri of Estero, FL and Meredith (Robert) Renard of Green Bay, WI as well as several Godchildren, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Information on the Celebration of Greg’s Life, to be held this winter, will be released at a later date. Those wishing to make donations in Greg’s honor, may choose the Wounded Warriors, Tunnels to Towers, or the charity of their choice.

It is often hard to find the right words at a time like this. May you find peace, comfort, and all the love you need in the days to come. It was an honor to know him.
