Gunnar John Wallschlaeger (February 22, 1940-December 10, 2015)

Gunnar J. Wallschlaeger, age 75, passed away on December 10, 2015 after a long fight with heart related problems complicated with end stage renal failure.

Gunnar was born on 22, 1940 in Rockford, Illinois.  He was the first son of William G. and February Margaret A. Wallschlaeger.

Gunnar graduated Class of 1958 from Rockford East High School where he made many friends playing football and track team sports.  He also attended Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois.  He served in the US Army as a Military Policeman, stationed in Fort Hood, Texas.  After serving in the Army, Gunnar went to work in the family business.

Over the years that followed Gunnar was involved with TerrHydra a heavy equipment contracting firm, and development of the 2nd Phase of GEM Suburban a 400 site mobile home community.  He also worked developing mobile home communities in Salt Lake City, Utah and Oviedo, Florida.

Over that followed Gunnar was involved with a number of enterprises.  He was a principal in Texas Travel Club and Vel Airlines which flew groups of tourists to exotic destinations.  He was a principal in a Cable Business in Dallas that provided cable TV to multifamily apartment complexes.  He formed Lip-Prints International, a partnership with a Japanese Firm, to market lip print applilcators, He founded Impresiones Labiales in the Costa Rica Free Zone to manufacture Lip-Prints using sophisticated equipment to produce the lipstick applicators to be used by major cosmetic companies.  He was also granted and registered US patents that were creative and innovation.  He developed many friendships and family relationships while he worked on projects in Costa Rica yet still retaining his US citizenship.

Gunnar also worked as sales associate for Hacienda Del Rio (a 55 plus manufactured home community) of Edgewater, Florida.  He was currently a managing partner in Florida Waterfront Estates, LLC developers of Lakes of DeLand, DeLand, Florida.  Gunnar was a skilled computer operator.  He loved photography and was skilled at developing web sites.  He developed the web site for the Florida Waterfront Estates, LLC project in DeLand www.lakesofdeland.com.

Gunnar is preceded in death by his brother, Eric W. Wallschlaeger , his father William G. Wallschlaeger, sister-in-law, Judith (Wendell) Wallschlaeger, uncles, Erick Wallschlaeger, Richard Johnson, Melvin Johnson, Evar Johnson, Gunnar Johnson and Edward Johnson; Aunts, Hilda Hogan and Olga Gessner; Cousins, Ron Gessner and Paul Gessner and Nephew, Daniel Wallschlaeger.

Gunnar is survived by his Mother Margaret A. Wallschlaeger (currently 102 years young); His wife of 30 years, Luisa Wallschlaeger of DeLand, Florida; Children, Lisa(Duncan) Palmer of Chicago, Illinois and Shannon Wallschlaeger of Austin, Texas; Grandchildren, Aidan Duncan and MaKenna Duncan of Chicago, Illinois, Brother, Mark (Julie) Wallschlaeger of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Brother and sister-in-law, Jorge (Xinia) Villalobos of DeLand, Florida, Brother-in-law Marvin Villalobos of DeLand, Florida, Sister-in-law, Yamileth, Maritza, and Kattia Villalobos of San Jose, Costa Rica, Sister-in-law Lorraine Wallschlaeger of Rockford, Illinois; Nephews, Kevin, Steven, Randal and Brian Wallschlaeger of New Smyrna Beach, FL and nephew Michael Wallschlaeger of Rockford, Illinois; Niece, Sarah Stadel of Cherry Valley and Erica Ainsley of Rockford, Illinois; Cousins, Lars Johansson of Cable, Wisconsin, Duane Johnson of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Melvin Johnson of Rockford, Kay Keith of Rockford, Illinois, Dean Johnson of Loves Park, Illinois, Carol Keegan of Rockford, Illinois, Sandra Shumway of Rockford, Illinois, David Wallschlaeger of Rockford, Illinois, and James Wallschlaeger of Edgewater, Florida.

God Took Gunnar To His Loving Home.

Funeral Services will be held at Baldwin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services located at 1 N. Causeway, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169.  Services will begin at 3 pm on December 21, 2015.  Reverend Dr. Chuck Underwood will be officiating at 3:30 pm.  It was Gunnar’s wish to be cremated, there will be no viewing.  Please share a memory at www.baldwincremation.com
