Obituary
(Harland) Wade Fowler, Jr. 87, of Daytona Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on March 9, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Arcadia, Florida on July 29, 1928 to the late Harland Wade Fowler, Sr., and Clara Hammond Fowler. He was predeceased by his brothers Herbert and Donald. He married Clara Burgdorff on February 1, 1953 in Ocala, Florida and they had three children: William (Medina) Fowler, Anne (Chris) Flaggs and John (Catherine) Fowler. He has three granddaughters: Jessica (Doug) Pauselius, Amy Flaggs and Colleen Fowler and two great grandchildren: Nate and Bridgette. Wade is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends.
Wade graduated from the University of Florida in 1953 and earned his M.S. (1959) and Ph.D. (1969) degrees in Entomology at the University of Illinois. Wade was a professional Public Health Officer and Medical Entomologist in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps and the EPA. In the United States Army he obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military service included assignments in Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Texas, Germany, Morocco, Turkey, South Carolina, Illinois, Maryland and Washington D.C. His military awards include the following medals: WWII Victory, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, National Defense Service, Vietnam Gallantry Cross unit Citation w/palm, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign and Korea Defense Service. He was a member of the Military Officers Association. After Wade retired from the military, he moved home to Florida where he continued working in Public Health and added Real Estate to his career endeavors.
Wade loved to spend time with family and friends and always had a story to tell (and retell) that kept everyone laughing. He loved Florida football, playing golf and watching old TV programs, movies and political talk shows.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St Mary’s Episcopal Church, 216 Orange Ave, Daytona Beach at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow later at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Halifax Health Hospice or Halifax Humane Society.
