Obituary

Harry J. Hambruch, 91 of Edgewater died Saturday, February 16, 2013 in Port Orange.  Harry was born on January 3, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Fredrick and Mary Hambruch.  After graduation from high school, Harry enlisted in the United States Navy in 1940 and went to Submarine School Groton.  Upon completion Harry was transferred to Pearl Harbor and assigned to the USS Seal until October 1941.  He was then assigned to a fleet of 12 submarines their mission was to patrol in and around Manila, Philippines.  In December of 1941 with the onset WW II their mission changed from patrol to the sinking of any and all enemy ships.  In 1943 Harry was then sent to Brooklyn, NY to learn about the Torpedo Data Computer systems which controlled the firing of torpedoes on the submarines.  While on assignment in Brooklyn, NY Harry fell in love and married Irene “Bobbie”.  Their love affair last 63 wonderful years until her death in April 19, 2007.  Harry’s final WW II tour of duty was to the USS Rock were he reach the position of Fire Controlmen I.  After returning home from war the happy couple moved to Baltimore, MD were Harry held several jobs as a data processor in the government arena.  He finally ended the last eight years of his career as a US Postal Service employee.  In 1986 Harry and his beloved wife retired to Edgewater.  A Life Celebration will be held 3PM, Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 485 Turnbull Bay Road, New Smyrna Beach.  A visitation will be from 5-7PM, Monday at the Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place, 1 N. Causeway, New Smyrna Beach.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church.
