Obituary
Helen Agnes Bennis, aged 90, died peacefully on March 16, 2017 at Signature Healthcare Facility in Ormond Beach, FL. Helen was born in Providence, Rhode Island on September 19, 1926 to Agnes and Joseph Dowiot, one of ten children, five boys and five girls.
Helen was a long time resident, with her late husband Sidney Bennis, of Ormond Beach, Fl. She had careers as an aviation insurance agent and realtor. A member of the Red Hatters for many years, she also served as their Treasurer. She was a huge advocate of regular exercise her entire life and even at 90, Helen was still working out several times a week at Schnebly Rec Center, where she and her late husband Sidney made many dear friends. Helen also exercised weekly at Planet Fitness and took classes at Gold’s Gym. Her friends and neighbors will remember her for her extreme thoughtfulness, high energy and spirited sense of humor.
Helen is survived by her devoted daughter, Elisa Tyson and husband David; three loving grandchildren, Blake Tyson and wife Lauren, Kimberly Tyson and Robert Tyson; great grandson Connor Tyson; two dear sisters, Celia Gladding and Peggy Defusco, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind numerous loving friends.
The family wishes to thank everyone who stopped by to visit Helen while she was in the hospital and in the rehabilitative facility following her accident. The time you spent with her meant so much and she truly lit up every time one of you entered her room.
