Obituary

Herta Tucker (Tauss), 86, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday, January 10th.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Forrest Tucker.

Herta arrived in America via Ellis Island on February 14, 1954. Herta was a beautiful woman who exuded class, quiet intelligence and always viewed life in a positive way despite being a Yugoslavian concentration camp survivor and battling lupus.  Herta mastered English as a second language and always loved words and their origins. She also loved opera, ballet, classical music, British comedies on PBS and Earl Grey tea with Grand Mariner.  In addition, she enjoyed fashion as reflected in her impeccable dress and endless array of shoes. Herta had an accomplished career in the Association field and was recognized with many awards.

Survivors include her only daughter, Heidi Stone (Charles) of Ft. Myers Florida; granddaughters Katy Stone of Chicago, IL and Jenny Schardt (David) of Henrico, VA; and three great grandchildren Jack, Charlie & Lizzy Schardt.

The family will hold a private celebration of Herta’s life. Donations may be made in her honor to Hope Hospice House of Ft. Myers, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908 donate.hopehcs.org

It is with such a heavy heart that I write this tribute....
I have been blessed to have known Herta in my life. With all of life's many ups and downs she enjoyed life to the fullest. Her life was a history book, but she never looked back, always forward. She had such a positive attitude that reflected on my life.
Our days spent together on the beach or elsewhere will always be a special memory I will treasure forever.....

    Herta,
You lived your life worthy of the dignity you had been given by your Lord and Savior, as you knew you had been made in His image.
Such a blessing to have met and known, for even just a short time, such a wonderfully elegant and beautifully strong woman.
I relished talking history with you and was in awe of your quiet strength and perseverance.
I’ve learned you were never one to be down or defeated, and how your determination and positivity overcame so much and brought you so many blessings.
Cheers to you, your beautiful life lived and to your wonderful family. May the memories of you and your amazing life assuage their sadness ever so slight.
Smiles for you as you now enjoy God’s loving embrace.
