Obituary

Lt. Commander James Joseph Arnold, Jr., United States Navy, Retired.  Jim was strong and authoritative, and supportive, but was best known for his sense of humor.  He cared about his family and his country.  Papa served in the Navy for 23 years of active duty.

He was married to his wife Melba for 58 years, who took such good care of him, and made sure he was well fed.

He was father to Jackie and Julie Arnold, grandfather to Gary Gregory, Anthony Gregory and Douglas Cameron Davis, and great-grandfather to Alivia Gregory.

He leaves behind his family, an extended family and friends who will grieve his loss.  We will still feel his support from the other side as he watches over all of us.

I will never forget the wonderful New Years Day fun runs put together by Jim and Melba. I couldn’t stand waking up early but the year felt wrong without the fun run and Melba’s breakfast!

I have fond memories of numerous New Years Day fun runs with Jim, my Dad, Joe, Gordon and others. We never really knew the distance because Jim marked the course and found it hilarious to tell us it was shorter than it really was. The run was followed by a wonderful breakfast with Melba, including Eggs Benedict. It was the perfect start to the year.
