James Everett Skidmore, age 54 of Apopka, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 4, 2012. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Laura and his faithful companion, his dog Gunny. Jim is also survived by sisters, Sherry Skidmore, Kathy Kivett, Susan (Ryan) VanDeventer, Nancy (Rick) Kononchuck, Gerri (Scott) Stover, sister in law, Sheryl Skidmore, six nieces and one nephew. Jim was preceded in death by his father Gerald Skidmore; mother; Ruby Skidmore, brothers Gary and Jack Skidmore. Jim was a 30 year employee of the Florida Hospital Laundry. In those 30 years Jim worked his way up to the position of Assistant Director and saw many changes at the laundry. He was a caring and compassionate leader of his 100 employees. At the time of his passing Jim was excited that new ground had been broken to build a brand new laundry facility. Jim provided invaluable input in the development of this new project. In his off hours Jim was famous for his barbeques and enjoyed cooking for his many friends and family. Jim loved riding his Harley. Jim was a big fan of Nascar and his beloved Oakland A’s. Jim was past president and Vice President of Florida Textile Management Association, a member of an outdoor sports club, the NRA and a HOG member. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A life celebration will be held from 6-8PM, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Highland Manor, 604 E. Main Street, Apopka. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the wounded warrior project, www.WoundedWarriorProject.org.
