Obituary

Jeanette Fernandes, a cherished soul who touched the hearts of many, peacefully departed surrounded by her loved ones in her sleep on April 14, 2024. Born in the Christian Quarters of Jerusalem, Jeanette led a life filled with love, passion, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Throughout her journey, Jeanette exuded warmth and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Survived by her beloved son, Jason Fernandes, and grandson, Carson William Fernandes-Larvison, Jeanette’s presence will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched. She is also survived by her brothers Jamil Smeir (Dunia), Jalal Smeir (Nawal), and Jawad Smeir (Mary), along with numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family members.

In her vibrant life, Jeanette found joy in the simple pleasures. She loved to immerse herself in the rich customs of India, delighting in its culinary treasures and cultural traditions. Her passion for cooking Indian food brought joy to her loved ones, and her kitchen was a place of warmth and laughter.

Jeanette’s appreciation for beauty extended beyond the kitchen; she had a keen eye for fashion and a talent for hairstyling. In her youth, she pursued her passion as a hairdresser, leaving her mark on countless individuals who sought her expertise.

Her love for Arabic soap operas and her flair for makeup were reflections of her vibrant spirit and zest for life. Jeanette embraced every moment with grace and elegance, infusing the lives of those around her with love and laughter.

Jeanette’s journey led her from Israel to new horizons, and in November 1979, she embarked on a new chapter, bringing her light to the United States. Along the way, she was preceded in death by her son, Jefrey Anthony Fernandes, her beloved husband, Welly Santiago Fernandes, her father, Salim Smeir, her mother, Suzanne Smeir, and her brothers Jorge Smeir and Jamal Smeir.

As we bid farewell to Jeanette Fernandes, we honor her legacy of love, compassion, and joy. She will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light and a source of inspiration. Heaven gained someone dearest to my heart, the first woman I called my mother in law, a grandmother who loved my children with every ounce of her heart & was always so proud of them both, my confidant, one of my biggest cheerleaders, one of the biggest supporters in my life, a woman who loved BIG, a woman who always asked & genuinely cared about how everyone else was doing (no matter how she felt), and someone I shared the most laughter & tears with. I’ll miss our friendship, our hugs, the strong love we shared, and our long conversations. She will forever be one of my most favorite relationships in this life and one that I’ll always cherish. The kids and I have been blessed to have you & be loved by you for so long. Our memories together will last forever. You will be dearly missed every day. ❤️
