Obituary
Jeanette Fernandes, a cherished soul who touched the hearts of many, peacefully departed surrounded by her loved ones in her sleep on April 14, 2024. Born in the Christian Quarters of Jerusalem, Jeanette led a life filled with love, passion, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Throughout her journey, Jeanette exuded warmth and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Survived by her beloved son, Jason Fernandes, and grandson, Carson William Fernandes-Larvison, Jeanette’s presence will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched. She is also survived by her brothers Jamil Smeir (Dunia), Jalal Smeir (Nawal), and Jawad Smeir (Mary), along with numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family members.
In her vibrant life, Jeanette found joy in the simple pleasures. She loved to immerse herself in the rich customs of India, delighting in its culinary treasures and cultural traditions. Her passion for cooking Indian food brought joy to her loved ones, and her kitchen was a place of warmth and laughter.
Jeanette’s appreciation for beauty extended beyond the kitchen; she had a keen eye for fashion and a talent for hairstyling. In her youth, she pursued her passion as a hairdresser, leaving her mark on countless individuals who sought her expertise.
Her love for Arabic soap operas and her flair for makeup were reflections of her vibrant spirit and zest for life. Jeanette embraced every moment with grace and elegance, infusing the lives of those around her with love and laughter.
Jeanette’s journey led her from Israel to new horizons, and in November 1979, she embarked on a new chapter, bringing her light to the United States. Along the way, she was preceded in death by her son, Jefrey Anthony Fernandes, her beloved husband, Welly Santiago Fernandes, her father, Salim Smeir, her mother, Suzanne Smeir, and her brothers Jorge Smeir and Jamal Smeir.
As we bid farewell to Jeanette Fernandes, we honor her legacy of love, compassion, and joy. She will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light and a source of inspiration. May her soul find eternal peace, knowing that her love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
