Obituary

Lee, Joan Cotter "" There will be a Life Celebration event held at the Country Club of Orlando on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 2PM honoring our mother and friend. We welcome all that knew her to join us on this special day. Joan Pennington Cotter Lee, married to the late William J. Cotter and later to the late Richard W. Lee, walked to heaven in the early morning of May 10, 2013. Born to Robert and Emma Pennington in Altoona, PA, she married early in her life and gave birth over time to 8 children affectionately known as the "Cotter Pins". She was co-owner of the Seminole Hotel and Virginia Inn on the shores of Lake Osceola in Winter Park, the Farragut Hotel in Rye Beach, NH and Lee's Inn in Highlands, NC. Hospitality and family were the foundation of her universe. She loved to play bridge and golf with her friends, snook fish with her family; she was an avid reader, crossword puzzle champion and always had a major sweet tooth. Some of her life's highlights included playing viola in the symphony under the direction of Russell Gearhart, working at the Pentagon in Washington DC, singing in the St. James and Winter Park Bach Choirs, being a member of the Junior League of Winter Park and Orlando, Pink Lady at ORMC, founding member of the Winter Park Racquet Club and long time member of the Country Club of Orlando. Predeceased by her son Michael A. Cotter of Orlando, she is survived by her daughters Joan Cotter Logan, Philadelphia PA, Veronica Cotter Rocke, Theresa Cotter Walker, Angela Cotter Daley all of Orlando and her sons William J. Cotter, Jeffrey J. Cotter of Orlando, Mark A. Cotter, Naples FL, brother Jude C. Pennington, Richmond, VA and sister Dorothy Pennington DiGiovanni, Philadelphia, 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to VITAS, Hospice Care, 2201 Lucien Way, Ste 100, Maitland Florida 32751.
