Obituary
Early Morning April 4th 2023 Joan closed her eyes and fell asleep in death in her home in Fruitland Park, FL. She had been battling lung cancer for about a year and a half. Joan was born in Brooklyn NY in 1941 to Osborn and Evelyn Durant. Joan grew up in Lockport, NY and that is where she met her husband José Fuertes and they raised their three children: Anita, José Jr, and Angela. Joan retired from GM in 1993 and not long after that Joan and her husband moved to Central Florida.
Joan had a very exciting life. Boating, camping, riding motorcycles, traveling. But the most important part of Joanʼs life was having a full share in preaching and teaching about Godʼs word the Bible. Joan was baptized as one of Jehovahʼs Witnesses on September 1, 1974. She took full advantage of her retirement and entered the full time volunteer work as a regular pioneer, which she served faithfully as until her death. Over the last 20 years Joan enjoyed going to where the need was great and working in unassigned and seldom worked territories. She joyfully talked about the Bible and Jehovah with anyone who had a listening ear.
Joan is survived by her children, Anita Fuertes, José Fuertes Jr, and Angela Conti, her grandchildren, great grandchild, her siblings, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449. Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
