Obituary
Joan Mansour, 79 of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away December 15, 2022. Joan was born Joan Gulyas in Passaic, NJ on February 5th, 1943.
Two months after she was born, her father had to leave the family to join the Army to help defeat the Nazis. When she was a little girl, she was faster than anyone her age. As an 8 year old, Joan once won running races against girls her own age. She then defeated the 10–12-year-old girls, and then beat the young boys and the boys older than her. Unfortunately, a childhood bicycle accident robbed her of her speed. But when she ran at her peak, the wind would howl because it couldn’t keep up. As a child, Joan was an adventurous go getter. She had excellent penmanship & penned all the high-school diplomas. She attended the Newark School of Fine Art & excelled there as well.
Joan married Peter Chartier & had a son named Christopher. Unfortunately, Joan & Pete divorced, and she raised her son all by herself. She was always providing for her & her son.
Years later, Joan worked at the Red Cross in Newton for several years as a volunteer & was a member of local NJ fitness facilities for over 20 years, attending 7 days a week. As an adult she worked for over 20 years at Singer/Kearfot defense in West Paterson, NJ.
Joan loved cooking a variety of ethnic dishes such as Polish, Italian, Arabic & American cuisine while entertaining for family friends during holidays & special occasions. She always had an inquisitive mind and like to paint fine art. She also loved doing puzzle books and telling funny stories. All her life, she had a deep love of animals and rescued several that she gave a great home life. She brought many smiles & laughter to everyone she met. She spoke multiple languages and traveled to many places with her husband Joseph Mansour (whom she claimed was the love of her life). They were blessed to spend 23 wonderful years together. She spent her final years living in Florida with her son & his wife.
Joan has an older sister named Patricia Turi, who lives in NJ, and who she loved very much. They grew up together in Lodi & Montville, NJ.
She has a son (Christopher), who lives in Florida with his amazing wife and a beautiful Granddaughter (Alyssa) who graduated with a Masters Degree in Special Education, is a certified teacher of the deaf and blind, and who speaks three languages, English, Spanish, and American Sign Language. Joan was so proud of her granddaughter Alyssa.
May she rest in eternal peace.
Thank you for being the worlds best grandmother to me. I truly feel blessed to have had your wisdom and guidance for 26 years. There are still so many things I wish you could be here for but I know you’ll be looking down on me, smiling. Enjoy all the desserts and ice cream up there. Until we meet again… I love you forever my guardian angel.
Remembering You.
Rest in lovely peace sweet lady!
Rest In Peace.
Your forever grateful Son,
-Christopher
