Obituary

JoAnn Vassar Cone Eskew, 89, passed on from the struggles of dementia, March 2, 2016, at Halifax Hospice Care Center, Ormond Beach, FL Born August 21,1926, in Weston, W.Va., to A. Leslie Vassar & Ethel Jones Vassar. JoAnn loved life and being the center of attention. She truly lived her life to the fullest.. .. her early years in Weston & Clarksburg, W.Va. and the last 45 years enjoying New Smyrna Beach, FL She enjoyed singing; dancing; Big Band Era music; knitting; and traveling to the mountains of “Almost Heaven-Wild & Wonderful” West Virginia. She loved many things … West Virginia & The WVU Mountaineers; the beach … especially New Smyrna Beach; and England, where she traveled with her dear friend Glenis Rogers. Her greatest loves were her family, friends, and her many dog children. She took great pride in her years of working in the medical profession … dental assistant; OBGYN assistant; in Clarksburg, W.Va. & EKG’s at Halifax Hospital. Right out of Weston High School, she married John F. Cone in 1946 and together they had three children. Later in life, she choose to live out her desire to move to Florida and followed friends (The Hinkles) to New Smyrna Beach in 1972 and never regretted that decision. It was here she met and married Joseph L Eskew in 1974 and they spent 15 years together enjoying fishing and membership in The Angler’s Club & The Hunt Club until his untimely passing. JoAnn dearly loved the view of charming New Smyrna Beach from the top of the South Causeway …. and never failed to mention experiencing that beautiful view. Her favorite gathering spots were Clancy’S and The Breakers. She was full of life! She is greatly missed. She is remembered with love. JoAnn is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Chip & Lou Anne Cone of Bridgeport, W.Va.; daughter & son-in-law, Jennifer (Cone) & Jerry B. Wells of Ormond Beach, FL; grand-daughter Erin Grossa Brown & great-grand daughter Kaili Ann Brown, and Dave & David Brown of Deltona, FL Grandson Ryan Grossa & great-grand children Jordynn Grossa & Zack Grossa of Sanford, FL Grandson Adam John Cone & great grand daughter Casey Cone of Louisville, KY and Step-son Lyle (Jane) Eskew of New Smyrna. She is also survived by many loving nieces & nephews from W.Va. and loving cousins Betty Hirsch & Bobby Jones. She was pre- deceased by daughter Connie Ann Cone-Grossa; husband John F. Cone; husband Joe Eskew; parents A. Leslie & Ethel Vassar; sister Jeanne Vassar-Garton; Step-son Tommy (Lorie) Eskew; and dear friend, Dr. Richard K. Hanifan …. all of whom she dearly missed. She was raised Episcopalian. Special thanks to Annette, Mary, Aquilda & staff of Sarah House 3 Tomoka; Diana of Ormond in The Pines; and the nurse angels, CNA’s & staff at Halifax Hospice Center of Ormond Beach, FL, who took very good care of her. JoAnn chose to be cremated thru Baldwin Brothers (NSB) her long- time friends & will be buried in the glory of the 2016 Fall season in the beautiful state of West Virginia … always her home & her heart. Kindly … memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society or the S.E. Volusia Humane Society, NSB, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

    You will be missed Joann. You now be with your daughter who I know you missed. I hope the family is doing well. I know your pain. Little Bit gave me a big kiss for his mom, I'm sure he misses her
