Obituary

John (Jack) William Glass, a man whose life was as rich and fulfilling as the streams he loved to fish, passed away on Good Friday, March 29th, 2024, at South Lake Hospital in Clermont, Florida, surrounded by the love of his wife and son. Born on July 27th, 1946, in Pennsylvania – to Marjorie Whelan Glass and John R. Glass – Jack’s journey through life was marked by devotion, passion, and the warmth of his presence, leaving an indelible impact on all who knew him.
Jack’s story began in Unionville, Pennsylvania, where, early on, he developed a love for football and trout fishing. Those were interests that would follow him throughout his life. His desire to provide a good life for his family led him to academic pursuits at Pennsylvania State University, Beaver campus, laying the foundation for a life filled with curiosity and an unwavering commitment to his interests and family.
It was in November 1963, during his senior year at Freedom High School, that Jack met Penny, the love of his life. Their time together spanning over 60 years, including 56 years of marriage, was a testament to their deep connection and mutual respect. Together, they built a life filled with adventure, love, and the creation of enduring memories.
Jack and Penny’s journey took them from Freedom and Unionville, through Cranberry Township and eventually to the hills of Clermont, Florida. From the tranquil streams of Mercer County, where Jack never missed the first day of trout season, to the historic streets of Williamsburg, Virginia, a place that held a special place in their hearts, Jack, Penny and Brian (their son) lived a life, full of wonderful memories. Their love for travel and exploration saw them making almost monthly trips to Williamsburg, sharing their love of history and patriotism with their son.
Life in Pennsylvania was marked by the building of homes in Cranberry Township and years of cherished times at their vacation home at Slippery Rock Campground, where they made many special friends with whom they have lovely memories.
In 2014, Jack and Penny embarked on a new chapter, retiring to Clermont, Florida, where they were blessed to have their son, daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law’s parents join them, bringing the family even closer. Jack’s Florida life was filled with visits to Universal, Disney, SeaWorld, and many cruising adventures. He was very involved with his church in Cranberry Township, Victory Family Church, and was a proud member of Real Life in Clermont, reflecting his love for God and community.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Penny, his devoted son, Brian, his daughter-in-law, Jessica, and a community of friends and relatives who were touched by his kindness, generosity, and spirited love of life. He was preceded in death by his father, John R, Glass, his mother, Marjorie Whelan Glass and his brother, Richard L. Glass, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories, fishing, and brotherly love.
Jack’s legacy is one of enduring love, passion for life, and the importance of God and family. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Jack, and may the streams you loved so dearly guide you on your journey.
For those who would like to remember Jack with a memorial, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Hospital. (Memorial Gift phone line, 800-213-6584)
