Obituary
John Louis Newberry, age 81, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2021 at LaCasa ALF in Merritt Island, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Newberry of Cocoa, FL; his daughter, Karen Patterson & her husband, Jeff of Viera, FL; two nieces and one nephew (and their families). He was preceded in death by his parents, Brice J. & Susie Margaret (Taylor) Newberry and brothers, Norman & Jerald Newberry.
He was born on January 4, 1940 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Later his family moved to Arcadia, FL where he graduated from DeSoto High School. After serving in the US Air Force & marrying Peggy, they moved to Cocoa, FL to begin their life and his career working at Kennedy Space Center for various companies for 40 years as a Senior Logistics Specialist before retiring.
He loved to stay active and enjoyed fishing, participating on softball teams & bowling leagues, as well as walking vast distances. He took great pride in planting his garden every year that he would share with others as well as a variety of mango & fruit trees. He loved preparing fish fries for co-workers, family & friends and was a great cook due to his mother’s guidance growing up.
He was a great husband, father & friend. Always lending a helping hand to those who needed it. He will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank LaCasa ALF & VITAS for the great care they provided him before he passed.
A funeral is scheduled for March 24, 2021 at Baldwin Brothers, 2400 S Washington Avenue, Titusville, FL. Viewing begins at 10:30 am with a service at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Arcadia, FL. There will be no graveside service. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in his memory.
