Obituary
John Moore went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 2, 2015, surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 10, 1919 in Lackawanna, New York, the son of John Edward Moore Sr. & Mildred Hunt.
He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Wilma Irene Mizer & 12 brothers and sisters. Survived by sons Wes (Ruth) Moore, Jim (Bonnie) Moore, daughters Katie (Joe) Petrinec, Linda (Rev. Michael) Maynard, Gretchen (Gregory) Williams, Vienna (Glenn) Bailey, multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Also survived by brother Richard (Linda) Rubeck, and his sister Alice. Also his special sisters in Christ, Joyce Tumblin and Barbara Eason.
He was in the US Army, 8th Infantry Division where he earned 3 Bronze Stars, as well as other medals in the service of his country in World War II. He belonged to VFW 1590 Daytona.
John married Wilma Mizer Sept. 11, 1942 in Tullahoma, Tenn. He worked for Bethlehem Steel for 33 years, then returned to school, earning his GED, and became employed by Frontier Central School District, reaching the position of head custodian. He was also Chief of Civil Defense Police in Hamburg, New York for many years, Town Constable for the Town of Hamburg, and Court Officer for the Town of Hamburg. He was a lifetime member of the Scranton Volunteer Fireman’s Association.
He was a member of the Big Tree Wesleyan Church from 1952, until his death. Upon retiring to Florida, he was faithful in attending the New Smyrna Beach Nazarene Church.
Rev. Chuck Atcheson will be conducting the Memorial Service scheduled for Saturday, October 10th, at 11 A.M. at the New Smyrna Beach Nazarene Church. Burial will be at the Jacksonville Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL for family at a later date.
