Obituary

John Wilson Usher, known as Jack, was a devoted father, loving husband, cherished friend and adoring grandfather.  Born in Miami, Florida on December 19, 1931 he was a man of integrity, resilience and unwavering love.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents John William Usher and Averil Cleare and his beloved wife, Julia (Judy) Usher.  Jack leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories.

Jack served as an Officer in the Army.  After his term, he attended the University of Florida, where he was an active member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.  Throughout his life, he continued to be a dedicated and involved member of his fraternity, exemplifying the bonds of brotherhood.  He relocated to Miami and attended the University of Miami where is received his college degree in Business.

A man of varied interests, Jack found joy in the simple pleasures of life.  He had a deep appreciation for trains, both in riding them and admiring train tracks.  This passion brought him moments of peace and fascination throughout his life.  He also loved and lived for college football season and was an avid Gator fan.

After retiring, Jack and his wife, Judy, embarked on countless adventures in their RV though out the United States.  They purchased a 2nd home in the Franklin, NC area for a few years as well.  They enjoyed the beauty of the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains.  They shared love for travel and created many experiences, weaving together moments of joy, discovery’s and enduring love.

Jack is survived by his sons, William (Bill) Usher and John Usher Jr and daughter, Laurel Usher Hall and son in law, Nick Hall.  His grandchildren are: Jonathan, James, Ella and Brayden.  Each of them carries a legacy of love, resilience and zest for life.  As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, let us remember the warmth of his smile and laugh, the strength of his character, and the love that he shared so generously with those fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Jack will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 @ 2 pm at the Baldwin Funeral Home, 620 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, FL 32127.  Following the service, a Celebration of Life will take place at one of his and his wife’s favorite restaurants, Aunt Catfish’s Restaurant at 4009 Halifax Drive, Port Orange, FL 32127.  In celebration of Jack’s vibrant spirit and love for life, we invite attendees to celebrate his memory the family kindly request that guests do not feel obligated to wear black.  Feel free to wear colors that reflect his vibrant spirit and love for life to celebrate his memory by wearing colors that reflect the joy he brought to our lives.
