Obituary

Joseph Vincent Maiorana,77, passed away early Sunday morning on November 3, 2019. “Joe” was born February 9, 1942, in Manhattan, NY, to Eugene Maiorana and Ann “Edna” (Fraser) Maiorana. He married Mary Ellen Buhl on May 25, 1968. Mary and Joe were happily married for 51 years before his untimely death.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, his children, Sean, Jennifer and Christopher, his daughter-in-law Valerie, and his grandchildren, Harry and Annie. He is also survived by his brother, Gene, and sister, Janet, numerous nieces and nephews, and a loving network of friends throughout The Villages who showed their support for him repeatedly during his long period of convalescence following a severe stroke the end of April.

Joe worked for Consolidated Edison in New York, NY, for over 30 years. In 1973, Mary and Joe moved to Monroe, NY to raise their family.  Joe would rise at 5:00 a.m. to catch the early train to work, returning home by 7:00 p.m.  Despite that long day he never missed a recital, sports game or band concert, was an active member of his local Catholic church and Vice-President of the Monroe-Woodbury School Board.

He retired to the Villages in 1999 for some much-deserved relaxation and to do what he loved most, play golf. Being who he was, he couldn’t fully retire yet- he worked as an ambassador for the golf division in both Glenview and Cane Garden for 9 years. He even managed two holes-in-one at Tierra Del Sol and Lopez Legacy golf courses.

Joe was a devoted husband, father and loyal friend, who gave of himself countless times in the service of others.  He was also a proud member of the Army National Guard and Reserve.  He will be deeply missed.

A memorial mass will be held at 11am on Friday, November 22, 2019, at St. Vincent de Paul. The family requests a donation made to the American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers.

Joe was a dear friend who I will never forget. Had a lot of fun working with him at Glenview when we first came to the Villages. And playing golf together with my wife and Mary.
