Obituary

**Our Dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, and Friend, Josephine R. Hatcher**, also known as “Jody,” “Momma Jo,” “Josey,” and always “Mom,” went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 93 on Sunday, October 22, 2023, with her family members and friends close by her side.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Vaught (Kay); sons, Ronald (Ron) Hatcher (Susan), John (Buddy) Hatcher (Jackie), and adopted son Edward (Eddie) Powell (Stacy); Grandchildren, Michelle Hatcher, Paul Hatcher (Ambar), Brian Vaught (Eric), Christina (Chrissy) Price (James), Carter Hatcher (Kati); Great-Grandchildren Noah Price, Cheyenne Price, and Haley Price; nieces Joyce Martin Thompson, Delores Hatcher Watts, and Susan Hatcher.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Foster Hatcher, her sons, Michael and Bobby, and her daughter, Barbara.

In her many roles, she helped her husband with a thriving construction business and built many homes and businesses in the Daytona Beach area dating back to 1948. One thing most people did not know was that Josephine was a certified and accomplished pilot and was co-owner of a Cessna 209 Cargo Plane. She and her doctor partner based their plane out of the New Smyrna Beach Airport and flew many local bands to venues, air ambulance service, and various types of cargo flights. She often landed in open fields in South Carolina while visiting family there.

Josephine became the manager of Bellair Bowling Lanes for many years and was a favorite there. She became known as “Mom” to so many and a cherished “Friend” to so many others. She later moved to Richmond, Virginia, where she became a manager with Bowl America for many more years. When Josephine moved back to the Daytona Beach area, she became well-known in the sign fabrication business. Several sign companies in the area would ‘wait’ for “Momma Jo” to arrive after her full day’s work fabricating sign faces to do their very specified and delicate ‘jewel-trim’ work on the faces of their signs before the signs could be completed.

The things Mom loved most in life were her cherished family, her precious little dog Mickie, her very special cat Smokey, her iPad with her favorite Solitaire game on it, playing cards of any kind, her very special friends in her card group, fishing of any kind, not to forget seasons of “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “Longmire,” and sitting outside on her patio in the sunshine with the dogs while enjoying her beautiful yard and patio full of flowers, most of which were derived from cuttings from her various homes in years past. She is now enjoying all that Heaven has to offer her in her Glorious new Home with her Lord. She will be forever missed, never forgotten, always loved, and close to our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Josephine on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, 620 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, FL.

I loved seeing Grandma Jody every time she came to Daytona Beach Christian Academy. She was always a ray of sunshine and so much fun to be around. Her visits will be missed!! It was an honor and privilege to get to know her.
