Obituary

Joy Sibley McMahon, 90, of Daytona Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on March 11, 2016. She was born on November 27, 1925 in Augusta, Georgia to the late Anderson Carmichael Sibley and Zailee Rhodes Sibley. Joy was a 1943 graduate of Seabreeze High School and she worked as a Florida Real Estate Broker from 1963 to 2013. She was an advocate for the deaf and a positive role model for others. Joy was determined to learn American Sign Language to communicate with her deaf sons, grandsons and granddaughters to be connected with their lives. Joy was the president of the Hearing Society of Volusia County in 1952, Board Member for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Board Member for the Easter Seals, Board Member of the Daytona Beach Historical Preservation, member of the Halifax Historical Society/Museum, Daytona Beach volunteer for the Red Cross Lifesaving Course, member of The Golden Girls of Daytona Beach, Board Member for the American Heart Association, was on the Board of the Drug Court of the 7th Judicial Circuit of Volusia/Flagler counties, was a member of the YWCA, she was a former Treasurer of the Seabreeze High School PTA and the Florida School for the Deaf. She was known well in her neighborhood and she was loved by many for her high spirits. She had a positive outlook on life and a great sense of humor. Her true passion was songwriting and music and spending time with her family, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles. Joy was a pioneer advocate, a passionate and inspiring individual who will be missed by the community she served. She is survived by her sons, Shannon Sibley McMahon (Kathy Thomas) of Kaneohe, Hawaii and Robert Younger McMahon (Carol Cambone) of Daytona Beach, Florida; her grandchildren, Camela (Matt), Romeo, Shari Joy, Benjamin, Michael, John (Jessica), Camilla; her great-grandchildren, Addison, Leia, Lance, Bambi, Xyla, Ammie Lisa, Mykanna, Marissa, Maverick, and Maurin; nephews, Mark, Stephen and Alan and niece, Dale (Dick) Ryals; sister in law, Millie. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons Michael Miller and John Leonard, her grandson Robert Jr. and her brothers Jack and Anderson “Tunny” Sibley.
