Obituary
Joyce Dornfeld Mayer, born April 18, 1928 to Philip A Sobel and Hannah Sobel ( Warner) died on February 28. Preceded in death by her husband Sidney Dornfeld and Alan Mayer. Joyce grew up in South Orange, NJ and in 1953 moved to Millburn, Nj where she raised her family. Joyce and Sidney moved to North Caldwell NJ in 1974. They were members of Mountain Ridge Country Club where they enjoyed an active social life and golf. Sidney was President of Canadians, a women’s clothing chain based in NYC and with locations primarily in the NY/NJ metropolitan area. After Sidney’s death in 1982 Joyce pursued a career as a financial advisor and bond salesperson.
In 1989 Joyce Married Alan Mayer of Short Hills, NJ. They lived together in West Orange NJ. In 1994 they moved to Palm Beach Gardens Florida. They enjoyed bridge, golf and made many friends at BallenIsles Country Club. They later moved to North Palm Beach, Florida, and closer to the water in a high rise condo. Alan passed away in 2011.
Joyce is survived by her children Thomas (Barbara) and Patti, three grandchildren, Lisa ( Mike), Lori ( Jeremy) and Sydney and five great grandchildren. In 2023 Joyce moved to Maitland, Florida to be closer to her daughter Patti. Joyce is the last of 31 first cousins on her mother’s side of the family.
