Obituary
Karl H. Draugelat passed peacefully at Hospice, Ormond Beach, after a long battle with Parkinson’s on Wednesday, Feb. 1. He was 84.
Karl was born in Berlin, Germany, on January 27,1939. After growing up in war-torn Berlin, he graduated from high school and started a 3-year apprenticeship in the hotel business and finished with honors. He worked for Hilton in Berlin and then moved on to Switzerland where he quickly advanced thru the different stages of hotel business. Food and Beverage was where he shined, working for first class hotels in Switzerland. He met his wife, Margrit in Lucerne and in 1965 they married and moved to the US where his career took him from Chicago to Detroit, and the UAW Center in Michigan where he was promoted to General Manager. Karl was transferred to cities in Florida, and continued to run award winning hotels. Karl retired from the hotel business in 2001 to enjoy traveling with his wife to many countries. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Christopher with wife Patricia of Albuquerque, NM and Glenn with wife Bethany of Palm Coast, 4 grandsons and one granddaughter.
A celebration of his life will be held later since many friends and family members live overseas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
