Obituary

Karl F. Hizelberger, 73, sadly passed away on September 11, 2023, in The Villages, Florida where he lived  with his wife of 40 years Susan.

Karl is survived by his wife Susan, daughters, Samantha and Kelsey Hizelberger and son, Kraig Hizelberger (Angalina) as well as 4 grandchildren Tristen, Roman, Kole and Mckinley who lovingly referred to him as BumBum.  His sister Jeanne Alward, brother Mark (Jennifer) Hizelberger, sister Joan (Max) Bolser and brother Paul (Irene) Hizelberger along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Fritz and Carol Hizelberger.

Karl was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 29, 1950 to Fritz and Carol Hizelberger. After graduating from Walled Lake Central High School, Karl floated through several occupations before settling on tool design, and like everything Karl put his mind to, becoming very successful. He was a self-taught, dedicated, hard worker for Troy Design, Delta Tooling, HS Design, Collins and Aikman and GT Asia.

It is hard to describe Karl Hizelberger in one or two words. He was an imaginative, extremely talented, hardworking, thoughtful engaging person. He truly cared about people and was well liked by all who were fortunate to know him. Karl was always ready for a good time and his very witty, charismatic personality with a great sense of humor (usually dirty) could charm any doubter.

Karl retired from tool design at the age of 62 and became a woodworker and handyman. He was happiest in his garage, building furniture or making Susan’s latest idea. He was truly a craftsman.

Simply put, Karl was an amazing man. He was a shoulder to cry on, a confidant, and a great listener. He always encouraged those he loved to do what made them happy. He loved his family and devoted so much of his life working to provide the best life he could for them. Karl would not want there to be tears but to remember him as in his words “Strong Like Bull”.

A celebration of life has been scheduled for Sunday, November 19th, 2023 at the Orion Center, 1335 Joslyn Road., Lake Orion, MI 48360 from 1-4 PM.

Karl and I were best of friends all through high school. One of the most memorable events were the deer hunting trips to Porkies with Fritz, Paul, Don and Karl. Spent a lot of time with Karl in Ellsworth and East Jordan Michigan. Will miss you my friend, but I'll be left with many fond memories. My deepest sympathy to his family.
