Obituary

It is with great sadness that I announce Ken Miller, the man, the myth, the legend, has left this earth for parts unknown. On March 5, 2023, Ken joined his father Jim, in peaceful sleep, after fighting a year long battle with liver cancer.

Ken was born in Masspequa Long Island on August 27, 1962. His family moved to Warwick in 1969 where Ken enjoyed playing baseball and working at his father’s auto parts stores. Ken graduated from John S Burke in 1980, joined the Air Force briefly, and then settled into marital bliss with the catch of his life, Cathie Winstanley. They would have been celebrating 40 years of marriage on St. Patrick’s Day.

With their 2 wonderful children, Katt Kelly and Colin Miller, the family lived in Mebane, NC for 10 years. Ken found his political purpose there and was elected to the North Carolina State House of Representatives in 1992. H served Alamance County as a Republican Yankee championing such controversial bills as conceal carry, tax credit for alternative education, and providing a U.S Flag for every NC classroom so the Pledge of Allegiance would be recited in schools daily.

Always  an avid ball player, Ken honed his fat pitch softball skills after the family moved to Gingmans Ferry, PA in 1999. He made quite a name for himself with the Sunday Men’s League. Ken helped his friend Jerry Debold run South Street Automotive in Warwick for several years before retiring to Florida, the land of Mickey.

Ken is survived by his wife, Cathie, his daughter, Katt, her partner Joe Melch and her daughter, Leighla Jaymes; his son Colin, Colin’s fiancé, Jeriva Mogret and Colin’s daughter Iliana Jack, and his faithful Scottish Terrier, Hamisch. Services for the family will be private, but if you venture into a pub this St. Patrick’s Day, raise a glass to Ken Miller. He would enjoy that.
