Obituary
Kendall Arthur Hawes, aged 86, of On Top of the World, Ocala, Florida passed away at the Marion County Hospice Cate’s Home on April 2, 2021 from complications of lung disease. Ken, Kendall, or Kenny as his firefighter friends knew him was born in Cambridge, Mass.
As a teenager, Ken spent many hours after school and on weekends at the fire station near his home. His love for the fire department continued when he moved to Milford, NH and joined the Milford Fire Dept as a call member for the next 40 years. He advanced from a firefighter, to a Lieutenant, to Fire Prevention Officer, and finally Deputy Chief. His passion for the Milford Fire Dept was forever evident in the hours and hours he devoted to its advancement.
In Milford, he built in his backyard an extensive garden with ponds and a G scale railroad that served as the entrance to his business, The Typemill. After his move to The Villages, Fl he designed, built and displayed at Christmas time a massive G scale modular layout enjoyed by thousands of people. In addition, after his move to On Top of the World he designed and built On30 modules.
When Ken lived in The Villages and On Top of the World, he enjoyed going out and working in his native plant gardens that covered a large part of his yards.
Ken is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gail Williamson-Hawes, a son, Peter Arthur Hawes, 2 grandchildren, Madison and Anders Hawes, Pieter and Sharon Lips, and his favorite cats Rodney and Sashi.
