Obituary
Kerwin Rodney Boyer (November 10, 1935 – February 26, 2019)
Kerwin Rodney Boyer, of Milford, Delaware, and Fort Myers, Florida, was born in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, the son of Morris Henry Boyer and Dorothy Ackerman Boyer. He graduated from Boyertown High School in 1953 and was married to the love of his life, Jean Woodward, on June 25, 1955.
Kerwin and Jean met in 1953 at a bowling alley while there with friends, the Boyertown Boys and the Upper Perk Girls. The always creative Kerwin had seen Jean and disabled her dad’s car so it wouldn’t start. He was able to miraculously repair it, providing him the opportunity to ask Jean for a date which she accepted.
Kerwin served as manager of the Knitting Department for Rittenhouse Hosiery for four of the years during his employment there from 1953-58. He moved on to become manager of Research and Development for Singer Company, Fidelity Division, in High Point, North Carolina, from 1958-1967, during which time he applied for and received numerous patents for feed-hosiery machines. Kerwin and family moved to Milford, DE, in 1968 when he became manager of the MarClay Hosiery Mills factory. Lastly, he was a manager at Tandy Electronics, running the Dover and Milford (DE) Radio Shack stores in the 1980s until his retirement in 1991.
Kerwin was an avid sportsman who enjoyed all the pleasures of living on the Delmarva Peninsula―hunting, boating and fishing. Much of this he shared with Jean, a winning angler in her own right. He enjoyed playing most any card game, often coming out the winner. Kerwin and Jean enjoyed being snowbirds later in life, splitting their time between Florida and Delaware. He adored his family and friends, all of whom will miss him greatly. He was a member of Reformation Evangelical Lutheran Church, Milford, Delaware.
Kerwin left this life on February 26, 2019, in Fort Myers, Florida, surrounded by family members. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jean Shirley (Woodward), and four children: Renee Carol Hannon (Don Ince) of Anchorage, Alaska and Venice, Florida; Darryl Kerwin Boyer (Trish Boyer) of Lincoln, Delaware; Valerie Lynn Hall (Jim Hall) of Leesburg, Virginia; and Dianna Kay Boyer (Betsy Germer) of Milford, Delaware. He also had four grandchildren whom he cherished: Kristen Jean Hannon, Mark Kerwin Hannon, Kayla Renee Hall and Stephanie Lynn Hall; as well as a brother, Jeffrey Lee Boyer (Janelle Boyer) of Huntersville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation JDRF.
