Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Lana Jean Cole. Lana left us earth side on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at exactly 7pm, with the support of her close family and friends. Lana fought a private and courageous 16 month battle with a rare form of cancer known as Mucosal Melanoma.

Lana grew up in Cobleskill, a small town in upstate New York. She attended Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School where she was able to get her GED and graduate with her class. Lana then went on to further her education and attended Herkimer College where she received her associate degree, and also attended Baruch College in Manhattan for a short time. Lana also attended the Orlo School of Cosmetology where she studied hair and makeup.

In 2014, Lana moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida where she met her life partner, Eddie Shackelford. They were immediately inseparable and the most perfect couple. Soon after meeting they decided to start their family and became the best parents to their two beautiful children, Liam and Aspyn. Lana’s greatest joy in this world was being a mom. Her love for her babies was fierce and unconditional. She was proud to wear the title “Mama” on her clothes, hats and bracelets daily.

Lana was not only a Mom, but a loving partner, daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend. She brought sunshine, love and laughter wherever she went. Always so thoughtful and genuine, she left her mark on everyone that knew her. She was the Queen of accessorizing and loved to decorate and go all out for any holiday or occasion. Her zest for life was unmatched and she lived everyday to the fullest.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 1-4 at the Brannon Center located at 105 S Riverside Drive, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168.

Lana’s wishes are that any contributions be made to her children in lieu of flowers. Please contact the family to learn how to make a contribution.

Lana was predeceased by her paternal Grandfather, Craig R. Cole of Cobleskill, NY, her Maternal Grandparents, Joseph Allen Potts and Lana Potts of Ormond Beach, Florida and her two Brothers, Derek Spencer and Dylan Patrick.

She leaves behind so many special people in her life; her partner Eddie Shackelford, her son Liam Madison Shackelford (8), her daughter, Aspyn Jean Shackelford (1), her mother, Grace Kiley (Jim), her father, Michael C Cole, her brother, Justin Cole and her paternal grandmother, Jean Rose Cole. Along with many friends, cousins, aunts and uncles that she loved so much.

We never met in person. I don’t think we ever actually verbally spoke but we texted a lot. From one needle in a haystack to another, I understood and respected the nature to stay private about it all. It was an honor to be an ear for you and aid in any way I could. My favorite memory would be you texting me super early in the morning to chat and connecting/sharing the feeling of how rare we are. No matter what time it was, providing hope to each other knows no time zones and is exactly why the connection was so important. God Bless you Lana

Lana took a piece of my heart, the day she received her angel wings. Friends since middle school. Spent most weekends together enjoying and navigating our teenage years. For every adult milestone I achieved, she was right there by my side. Whether it was our first airplane flight together, first music concert, joining me beachside at my wedding and celebrating the birth of my children. I couldn’t ask for a better best friend, yet gone too soon… Lana was an excellent daughter and sister, and the most wonderful mother! I will miss you dearly and think of you everyday!

The Lord has taken the sweetest, kindest Earth Angel I knew. If you were fortunate enough to know Lana, you could feel the love and kindness flow from her soul. She would enter a room in a whirlwind and exit with I Love You.
    May she Rest In Peace.
    My heart is broken.

Dear Grace, Mike, Justin & Jean and Eddie and The Children ~ My sincere and deep condolences. Having known Lana as a sweet and lovely child, it breaks my heart that she has been taken to heaven so soon. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing she brought sunshine to others in her 40 yrs. You are all in my prayers ... so thankful Lana took 100's of photos that document a life of loving and joy. May they bring you comfort and give the children her story for the rest of their lives. I'm so very very sorry for your loss. It has hit me like a ton of bricks ~ Life is so precious. Bless you all. ~Sharon Aernecke Aitchison
