Obituary

Larry E. Newberry, of Bradenton, Florida formerly Vandalia, Ohio, age 81, died peacefully Tuesday April 16th, 2024 at 9:45 am. Larry was preceded in death by his son, D. Todd Newberry, his sisters Phyllis Lewis and Madonna Mantooth, his brother Robert Newberry, his parents Betty I. Newberry (Slack) and Henry Newberry. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carol Newberry (Drook), Daughters Tina Semler and Terri Paulus, grand children, Lacey, Cody, Ashley, Lindsey, Tyler and Madison, and 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Larry was born in Cleveland, Tennessee on August 16, 1942. He had residences in Ohio, Tennessee, and Florida at one time. Larry was a former ironwork and retired from GM in 1999. He was a member of the Masonic Temple, the Moose, and the Eagles. Larry put passion into all things in life. He was a known musician and played in numerous bands. He shared this passion with his son Todd.

Larry played the guitar, the piano, the bass, as well as sang. He loved being on the lake. Larry was always the captain of his boat. He was an amazing salomon skier, skiing well into his 70s. He taught a countless amount of people to ski. There was no cliff or bridge Larry wouldn’t jump off. During retirement Larry spent time researching genealogy, learning Spanish, and whittling. Larry had countless other hobbies.

Larry could find a teachable moment in anything he did and was willing to pass his knowledge along to anyone that would listen. Larry will not only be greatly missed by his family but the countless amount of people that he touched over the years

    We Loved Larry (& Carol) & their Families. He was truly a very special Man, lots of fun & talent. We have known them for over 10 years and felt close to them the first time we met them. He will be so missed by us all, Rod & Lee Helgenset
