Obituary

Laverne Turocy, 82, of The Villages, Florida, formerly of Westlake, Ohio, passed away peacefully after a long illness surrounded by loved ones on December 22, 2023. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Ken Turocy, and daughters Diane Plumley (Craig), Karen Rendina (Mike) and Chrissy Turocy as well as 4 grandchildren Courtney Plumley Gill (Caleb), Ryan Plumley, and Brian and Nick Rendina. As the 13th child, she has one remaining sibling, Arlene Elyko, plus pseudo sister Linda Kenney, and countless relatives and lifelong friends.

It’s been tough to capture our mom’s personality in a few words as she was larger than life itself. Powered by her strong faith, she had a kindness which impacted anybody she met, her tough childhood creating an empathy to those in need. She was generous, funny, and vibrant, often the life of the party. An amazing cook who had a passion for playing and watching sports, the house was never quiet growing up, constantly full of music, laughter, and love. Some memories include her amazing homemade meals and Saturday nights watching the Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and the Carol Burnett show. The Cleveland Indians were on the radio when music wasn’t, and Sundays were spent watching the Browns by the fire in the family room. Her psychic abilities baffled us all and the pencil trick was never wrong. At gatherings you were sure to find her with a glass of wine, huge smile and dancing up a storm. Her energy was contagious and lit up the room.

Many of these characteristics can be found in her three daughters who are devastated by this loss but have some comfort that she is no longer in pain. Dementia took most of her wonderful personality away, but she never lost the joy and love for family and music.

In lieu of a service or flowers, please feel free to make a donation in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association. We miss you mom!

To Christine and the rest of the family, my condolences and prayers. Remember the good times as those are what really mattered.

I never had the honor of meeting Laverne, but she and her husband raised a fine lady in Christine. I had the pleasure to work alongside her at AEP.

May her soul rest in peace.

I had the privilege of working with Laverne at Red Roof. Our guests loved her and asked about her when she was off work or working a different shift. She brought a smile to people’s faces and often a laugh. She always talked about her family, and how proud she was of her girls and her grandchildren. I had the pleasure of spending some time with Laverne’s beautiful family at some fun events! Ken, Diane, Karen, Chrissy, and all of the family- my heart breaks for you. Thank you for sharing Laverne with me- she brought so much happiness to me and my family, and to so many lives she touched at Red Roof!
    With love,
Jon & Trudi Baaske & Family

I have been so blessed to have been the next door neighbor to the Turocy family. My childhood was so special because of all the times I have spent with this family. Mrs. Turocy was the angel who made my time in her house so wonderful! I can’t count how many times I’ve spent the night over their house. Mrs. Turocy was alway so welcoming and loving to me. I think I spent the night every time there was a MISS USA PAGEANT on the tv tube! She always had the pantry filled with soooo many snacks that the Gipper family never had! My dad banned sugar when he lost his teeth and got false teeth!!! lol Sugar was never seen in our house since!! Not only yummy snacks to gobble up while we watched tv but we’d wake up to hot tea and warmed glazed donuts!! I so looked forward to this breakfast. She made it every time I slept over ! That’s how special she was!!! Mrs. Turocy will
Always hold a special place in my heart. Love you!

I would spend the night every time the MISS USA PAGEANT was on the tv tube. lol We would wake up and Mrs. Turocy would have tea and warm glazed donuts ready for us to gobble up. I so looked forward to this breakfast and spend time talking and laughing with the girls!! She was so welcoming and loving to me always. I just loved her smile and her laugh!! My childhood was wonderful because of the time I spend with the Turocy family . Mrs. Turocy will always hold a special spot in my heart! ❤️

On the day we moved to Westlake, next to the Turocy’s, Laverne came over with a beautiful yummy layer cake - the first of her many baked creations. She was a fantastic cook & shared her recipes which have even been passed down to our own grandchildren.
Our neighborhood association had parties & other social events and Laverne volunteered on many of the committees - what a fun time. A day didn’t go by without Laverne & I doing something together. We were on a bowling team together and played pinochle together. Our families had vacations together. Our kids are still friends to this day. They also had parties together, mostly when us parents were out of town.
Many of our OH group moved to FL, following Ken & Laverne, who were the pioneers in leading us to The Villages. There Laverne could be counted on to organize our “ pot luck parties “ or dinners together after Fri. golf.
We miss you Laverne and we have faith that we’ll be together again. BFF.
    ❤️ Sandy & Loy
