Obituary
Lee T. Quick of Ormond Beach, Florida, Passed away on May 24, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Lee Quick, sister, Angeline Quick and his wife, Sallie Quick. Lee is survived by his sister Caroline Zweidler and his sons, Bryn, Kennon, and Daryl.
Born on July 12, 1938, in Wilson, NC, He attended Charles L. Coon H.S. He then continued his education to receive a degree in electrical engineering, finishing at the University of Delaware where he received his Ph.D.
His true love, after (and with) his wife was music. He started learning piano from his mother at age six. This served him well, as he started playing piano with a number of jazz groups while at N.C. State, including a swing jazz quintet where he would meet singer and future wife Sallie. She would soon learn bass to spend more time playing music together. After Moving to Delaware for grad school Lee would have the opportunity to play at the 1st Clifford Brown Memorial with Bosie Lowery, Brown’s teacher. He also had the privilege to participate in numerous jam and swing sessions with notable musician’s Thad Jones, Pepper Adams and The Four Aces
Moving to the Ormond Beach area in 1977 to work at General Electric, he found work in numerous jazz and swing venues from Jacksonville to Melbourne with groups that included the Jimmy Dorsey and Charles Spivak Orchestras, Central Florida vocalists Linda Cole and Jackie Jones, instrumentalists Allen Eager, Bobby Hackett Protégé Bobby Branca, Montage and Quicktime, both co-led by Lee and Sallie Quick. Lee also performed piano weekly at the Unity Church of Greater Daytona for 15 years.
