Obituary
Dr. Lois Aardema Van Houten, 93, died peacefully in her home in Ormond Beach, FL on January 4th, 2024.
Lois graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, then continued her education at Florida Atlantic University, earning a doctorate in Education. For several years she was charged by the Broward County, Florida school system to set up curriculums for at risk children in schools. She was very involved with the Christian Reformed Church and eventually became the principal of Fort Lauderdale Christian School.
She had a calling to play pipe organs and direct choirs, which she did for many years in southern Florida for church services and weddings. She also shared her love of the piano by teaching others how to play. In her later years, she used her time and resources to sew clothing for the children of Haiti.
Lois is survived by her son, Pete Van Houten, and daughter, Carole Holland. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Van Houten and son David Van Houten.
Lois will be sadly missed as a Mom, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and a Friend. She will always be in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
