Louise departed this world for the next on Sept. 1, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was born on December 11, 1926, in Birmingham, Alabama the only child of Curtis Carl Bowen and Cecil Margaret Mathis. She graduated from John Herbert Phillips High School at the age of 16yrs and entered the United States Cadet Nurse Corps on Feb. 8th 1944 in New Orleans at Touro Infirmary. Her passion for the nursing profession extended throughout her lifetime. She completed graduate work in Nursing Administration and went on to have a successful career first in nursing leadership and then in nursing home administration while raising a family of four children.
She retired to Florida form Pennsylvania in the early 1980’s and remained a resident of Edgewater until her death. She worked at Ocean View Nursing Home in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
She is predeceased by her parents, her son Stephen Adolph Schmidt and her beloved husband Richard Clayton Corey. She leaves to cherish and honor her memory three daughters and their families to include, Leslie Morris and granddaughter Jessie of Florida, Diane and Bruce Buckman and grandsons Corey and Bret of Pennsylvania, Dawn and Steven Brown and granddaughters Rachel and Charlotte of Delaware, as well as daughter in-law Annette Beresford of Virginia and grandsons Keir and Mekha and step-son Rick Corey of Allentown, PA.
She will be missed by friends near and far who experienced her generosity, wit, compassion and wonderful conversation. She was a story teller like no other. To those who knew her, our lives are diminished in her passing
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Halifax Hospice Southeast Volusia Care Center, 4140 S. Ridgewood Ave., Edgewater, Fla. for the exceptional care extended to her and to her family.
Interment of ashes in Birmingham, Alabama will be private.
Cremation arrangements under the direction of Baldwin Brothers Cremation Society.
