Obituary

Lucy A. Armstrong, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, after a brief illness. She was born in New York City, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Vincenza Paciolla Sammarco. When Lucy was five years old, her family moved to Gloversville, New York, and at the age of 93, she moved to Ocala, Florida.

Until shortly after she married, Lucy worked sewing gloves in Gloversville, an Upstate, New York, city known for its high-quality, hand-crafted gloves. Lucy was a quick study and was soon teaching others how to sew gloves. She could produce beautiful, intricate gloves and once sewed gloves for Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. She was a brilliant and meticulous seamstress.

Lucy married James R. Armstrong on August 3, 1946. She enjoyed being a homemaker and their house was a warm, safe home. Lucy took great joy in raising their four children: Timothy (MaryLouise) Armstrong of Gloversville, New York and Tierra Verde, Florida; Richard (Cathy) Armstrong of Towson, Maryland; Karen (Tom) Rector of Ocala, Florida; and Janice (Randy) Paul of Tierra Verde, Florida. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren (Erica, Jason, Tanya, Todd, Angela, Ryan, Joseph, Jacob, Bradley, Michael, Jessica, Rebecca and Jared) and many great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, all of whom she loved and adored.

Lucy enjoyed tending to her vegetable gardens, reading, sewing, cooking, baking and sharing her delicious dishes with her family, who often referred to her offerings as “Lucy’s Takeout”! She would have given those she loved everything she had and her generous and loving spirit will always be remembered. We will miss you and love you forever.

In keeping with Lucy’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Cremation with interment at the side of her husband of 66 years, who passed away in 2012, will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.  Arrangements by Baldwin Brothers Funerals & Cremations 11250 SW 93rd Ct. Rd. Ocala, FL 352-236-7813.

We send our deepest sympathy to all the family. Lucy and Jim were such a pleasure to be with and talk. Many good times were had with family years past. And Lucy food was the best she was such a good cook. Anytime we would see her in the store we had such good talks. We did not realize that she had moved to Florida. Again prayers and blessing to all the family

Oh how I wish I had known she was a glove maker.. I would have loved to learn how to do that. God has granted you rest and peace. Your family will miss you dearly. However you have given so many memories for them to cherish for years to come. A life well lived.
