Obituary
Maria Miranda , age 81 died of natural causes on February 4, 2020 in Ocala, Florida.
Maria is survived by her daughter, Michele Miranda of Portland, Oregon, where Maria previously lived with her family for over 20 years. She is also survived by her last remaining sibling, Francisca Lopez, of Carolina, PR. and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Wenceslao Miranda.
Maria was born on December 12, 1938 in Carolina, PR., to parents Pascasio Lopez and Josefa Padin De Lopez. After marrying and leaving Puerto Rico in her 20’s, she lived briefly in Miami and then in Westchester County, New York before moving to Oregon in 1971. While in Oregon, she worked as a teacher, helping teach immigrant children English as a second language for over 15 years. She loved getting to know the children and helping them and their families thrive in their lives in America.
Maria was very devoted to her family and was a loving mother. She married Wenceslao (“Ben”) Miranda and the couple had one daughter together.
Maria was a cheerful, friendly woman, who always had a quick smile and laugh. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and regularly prayed the rosary. She enjoyed travel, both near and far, but also appreciated time spent at home. Her family will always remember her as a devoted and kind person with a lively spirit.
A funeral mass is scheduled for noon on Tuesday February 11, 2020, at Queen of Peace catholic Church in Ocala, Florida. All are welcome to attend and to celebrate Maria’s life.
