Obituary

Marlyse Peter Fitzgibbons was born on April 7th, 1932, in Geudertheim, France. Growing up in the Strassburg area during WWII had a huge impact on her and led her to a job with the US Army in Captieux France. She was very proud to work for a US Army Colonel. She also met her future husband, Jim Fitzgibbons, a US soldier stationed at the base. She emigrated to the US following him and arriving in New York on March 17th, 1962.

Marlyse and Jim moved their family to Florida in 1975 where they were business owners. After retiring, Marlyse worked at a local French bakery. Marlyse was a doating grandmother and enjoyed spending time with and spoiling her grandkids.

Marlyse leaves behind a son, James (Karen), daughter Lynda (John), 6 grandchildren and their spouses and her great grandchildren. Marlyse is also survived by her sister and 2 brothers, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews living in France and the US.

There will be a service held at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church on March 16th at 11:00 am. A celebration of life to follow at the family’s home.

We knew Marie Louise by her native alsatian first name Marlyse, she was our aunt, she was my godmother, she was a friend. She loved us, we loved her. She knew tough love, as a kid she saw the war in Europe first hand. My dad, her brother, was younger and a handful back then, and she knew how to handle him and her other brothers. She was an amazing person, a polyglot, smart, intelligent, with a good sense of humor. I miss you Marlyse, rest now, until we are all reunited.
