Marie A. Sottardi
08/10/1930 – 11/05/2018
Marie A. Sottardi of Ormond Beach passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2018. She was 88. Marie was born in New York City, the eldest of four children, and attended Hunter College. She married her husband, Charles, in 1952 and worked for the Girl Scouts and Cannon Mills before eventually moving with her family to Ormond Beach in 1976. In Florida, she worked as a legal secretary for more than two decades at some of the area’s largest law firms. She was a breast cancer survivor and volunteered with the American Cancer Society’s Reach To Recovery program to help other women cope with the disease. She also served as a county court mediator; a board member of two homeowners associations; and president of the Italian American Club, where she helped award college scholarships to area students. The City of Ormond Beach recognized her good deeds by declaring December 14, 2000, as Marie Sottardi Day. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and destroying the competition in bingo. She will be remembered as a kind and caring soul who loved—more than anything else—to spend time with family and friends. Survivors include her son Glenn; son and daughter-in-law, Drew and Kris; grandchildren Sofia and Charlotte; sister Virginia and brother-in-law Steven; sister Linda and brother-in-law Jack; and five nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles; and her brother, also Charles. A memorial service will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 600 S. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, on Friday, November 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the church hall. Memorial gifts in Marie’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
