Obituary

Mario Busa, 86, of The Villages, Florida, formerly of Chittenango, NY passed away peacefully on January 1, 2018 at The Villages Hospice House, with his family by his side.

Mario is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Donna Smith.   His four children, Stephanie Hunt (Jeffrey),  Judy Waterstram (Mark), Michael Busa, and Andrew Busa (Paula).  Grandchildren, Sarah Ward, Alex and Lillie Hunt,  Koby and Hannah Waterstram, Matthew Busa (Ashley),   Brooke and Drew Busa.   Great Grandchildren, Liam, Jackson, Maddie, Mason and Skylar.   Many nieces, nephews and a long list of extended family and friends.

Mario was a 1949 graduate of Oneida High School.   He served in the US Army, stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict.  Mario and Donna married in Oneida, NY on November 5, 1962.  Prior to moving to Chittenango Mario and his family resided in Oneida.   Mario proudly owned and operated Mario’s Market in Oneida for several years.     He completed insurance courses at MVCC in 1965.  Mario was  employed as an independent agent by Nationwide Insurance for over 35 years.    The Busa Insurance Agency opened in Chittenango on March 1, 1971 serving the local area until Mario’s retirement.

Mario was very active in his local community as a member of the:  Oneida Central School Board of Education where he served as Vice President, Oneida Elks Club, Oneida American Legion Post 169 where he served as Commander and President of the Board of Directors, The Villages American Legion Post 347, Madison County Farmers Home Administration Committee, over 30 years of membership in the Chittenango Lions Club, also Past President and Paul Harris Fellow of the Chittenango Rotary.

Mario served his local government as a Chittenango Village Trustee, Deputy Mayor, Police Commissioner, Insurance Consultant and on the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Mario was eager to help with any local fundraising, greeting all with a smile, a handshake and a raffle ticket for sale!   He enjoyed golf, cruises, poker, grocery shopping, happy hour and entertaining his family and friends.   He was a true gentleman, loved and admired by all who crossed his path.
