Obituary
Mary Ellen (Dunn) Sylvester of Fort Myers, Florida and Hyannis, MA passed away peacefully on July 1, 2021, following a battle with cancer. Mary was the only child, born on January 25, 1942 in Hyde Park, MA to the late Daniel and Agnes (Farrell) Dunn. Mary married the love of her life, Jon (Jay) Sylvester and relocated to Hyannis in 1972 with their three children.
Mary went about her business as a caretaker with quiet strength and was always there in anyone’s time of need. Mary and Jay opened their home to foster children, Cape Cod Baseball league players, band members and anyone needing a temporary home. Mary provided a safe, often lively, nurturing home to everyone, making each person she met feel special. Mary also provided in-home Daycare for many years on Cape Cod. Mary enjoyed baseball, her family, and riding her motorcycle on Cape Cod with her husband. Mary relocated to Ft. Myers where she gained many friends, enjoyed spending time on the beach, and participating in various groups. Her sarcasm and quick comebacks remained with her even as her illness progressed.
Mary is predeceased by her husband Jon J Sylvester. Sheis survived by her three children; son, James Sylvester ( Vivian) of Marstons Mills, MA, daughters, Tracy Murphy (Kevin) of Onset, MA and Jodi Sylvester-Dickerson. of Canton, MA. She is also survived by her sister in law, Donna Sylvester (Tony Mazzaglia) and brother in law Ronald Sylvester(Francis). Mary also leaves behind her grandchildren; Jesse Martinez, Jonathan Martinez, Crystal Sylvester, Courtney Sylvester, Joseph Sylvester, Jodie Lopes, Derek Lopes, Jared Murphy, Daniel Sylvester and Jalen Dickerson. Mary also leaves behind twelve great grandchildren, and her Godson Derek Vecchione.
Mary will be greatly missed by her family and friends throughout Massachusetts, Florida and beyond! A private graveside service at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit, MA will be arranged at a later day where Mary will rest peacefully with her husband.
