Obituary
Mary Kathryn “Kat” Essary, 90, of Edgewater, Florida, passed away on January 2, 2020. She was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on August 9, 1929, and moved with her family to Tennessee at the age of 2. The family returned to Detroit, Michigan when she was about 13 years old. She graduated from Eastern High School in Detroit and married Virgil Herman Essary in 1948. While living in Michigan, Kat raised two children, was an active member of the North Warren Church of Christ, volunteered at the Church of Christ Care Home, and helped many in need. She was also an Avon Lady and a sales associate at Saks Fifth Avenue in Birmingham, Michigan.
Kat retired to Florida in 1995. She was an active member of the New Smyrna Beach Church of Christ, opening her home for fellowships, meals, church services and playing cards. She was always there when someone was in need of a helping hand or a meal. She exemplified God’s love.
She was predeceased by her parents, Carlos and Florence Goodman, her husband, Virgil Herman Essary, her son, Dennis Mark Essary, and her sisters Minnie Hagler McClellan and Shirley Goodwin. She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Don) Wagner, her daughter-in law Diane Essary, her grandchildren Kristin (John Collins) Essary, Kyle Essary, Nicholas (Serah) Wagner, Matthew Essary and Justin Wagner, her great grandchildren Jack and Stella Collins and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the New Smyrna Beach Church of Christ on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11am. A second celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at 11am at the North Warren Church of Christ,14150 13 Mile Road, Warren, Michigan.
